As a clothing designer and fibre artist my goal is to rekindle our love of Slow Clothing. I create classic designs that can be worn as stand-alone pieces or layered as an outfit. Focusing on quality craftsmanship, I create small collections of thoughtfully curated pieces that work together. I work with natural fibres and also make one-of-a-kind pieces with specialty fabrics. I enjoy working with natural dyes and have a line of wool scarves dyed in vibrant jewel-tone colours.
My extensive travels over the past 35+ years have given me an appreciation for clothing traditions from around the world. I lived in Japan and Greece during the mid-80’s and have traveled to Southeast Asia, India, and Africa, always curious to learn more about traditional textiles. I have received training from world-renowned instructors including Malian textile artist, Aboubakar Fofana, French chemist and botanist, Michel Garcia, natural dye expert, Charlotte Kwon, (Vancouver, BC) and Laotian natural dye artists at Phaeng Mai Gallery, (Vientiane, Laos).
My grady bleu® line of clothing was born out of my inspiration of indigo-dyed fabric. For centuries, dye from the indigo plant was one of the only ways to create blue fabric and was a staple of world trade. In addition to the color blue, I include a palette of other colours as well. Combining old-world sensibilities with contemporary design, I create garments that have timeless and enduring appeal.
