Think of the ways in which human beings are trapped. Perhaps we are trapped by social convention and mores, by our private and public roles, gender expectations, political andeconomic position, etc. Perhaps, we trap our minds, our thoughts, our desires, keeping them
hidden away from social morality and convention. Is it our fantasies, our secret desires, our hopes and aspirations that are locked away from the world and from our self? Are the darker feelings of painful emotion hidden from the surface? Do we fully express ourselves even to our loved ones? In what ways do we settle for less to avoid conflict and pain? The repressive tendencies to bite our tongues, to temper our emotions, and to trap our inner desires creates a world in which human beings choose to remain un-free and un-expressive. My current work examines these and similar philosophical concerns.
