Saskia Wassing is a professional textile artist and educator trained at the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland, in the B.A. Honours Embroidered & Woven Textile program. Originally from England, Saskia has been based in Canada for more than 25 years.
Saskia keeps a sketchbook using drawing as a way of collecting information and processing her ideas. However working with textiles is where she feels most creative. Pulling from past experiences, memory, connection, and personal identity all find expression in the tactile nature her materials provide.
Using a basic domestic sewing machine as her drawing tool, Saskia freely stitches onto a textile ground, building up with fabric and thread the colourful images, patterns and textures that communicate her joyful and playful textile narratives.
