About
My work is textile-based. I incorporate found natural and manufactured objects in my pieces to add textural depth and to explore both the surface and hidden ideas that form the structure of each piece.
Both historical textiles and contemporary issues influence my work. By combining traditional surface design techniques with non-traditional materials, I create pieces that are both physically and metaphorically rich. Many of the materials I use have been discarded either as waste or as surplus to need. I gain great satisfaction in the knowledge that by re-purposing these materials I am extending their life and their usefulness.
Experimentation is a key element in all my work. I love the thrill of working with, and exploring, the unknown. I enjoy the process of gaining familiarity with that which was previously unmapped, whether it is a new material, a new technique, or a new idea.
