David Trant graduated from OCAD in 1991, and now lives and works at his studio in Port Perry Ontario. David works as a painter, and a sculptor. A self taught woodcarver, his work is best described as "Pop culture folk-art", incorporating the influences of both his Down East family roots, and the craziness of the world around us. Using what he calls "The Mr. Potato-Head School of Woodcarving", David creates the basic shapes, then fabricates all the needed parts and assembles his work in the shop, using mostly really loud power tools. "The essence of what I do, is to make things out of stuff, then put paint on them. It seems simple, but it actually takes a really long time, and makes a pretty big mess. Hopefully people like it.".
