This workshop offers an introduction to natural dye processes including mordanting, preparing plant-based dye vats, and post-mordanting. Participants will learn the fundamental principles of working with natural dyes and will leave with a hand dyed cotton tote along with a dye sampler reference booklet. Includes working with locally foraged plants. Bring your curiosity and gather in good company. All material will be provided.
Tania Love is a Toronto-based visual artist who takes the cues for her work from the natural and cultural environment. Her curiosity in the intersection between traditional methods and innovative expressions has led her to explore a breadth of materials. She places emphasis on process oriented, tactile works to invite quiet, slower rhythms and connection to natural cycles.
Recipient of numerous grants, international residencies and exhibitions, her work has been seen in public and commercial galleries and design projects across the globe from her native Toronto and Ontario surrounds, to NY, France, Poland, Tokyo Japan and India. Her most recent solo exhibition was held at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum April - June 2019.
