POSTPONED: Due to the public health risks related to the COVID-19 outbreak the C2 Centre for Craft will be closed until April 1. The opening date will be reassessed as things progress.

In this workshop, Styrchak will present some of the historical connections to the kumihimo technique, and all will learn the basic movements of the braid on a disc. Hopefully, later we will have a chance to try it on the marudai, a traditional kumihimo frame. Notes will be provided of various patterns as they are formed with colour or alternate movements. A disc and bobbins will be provided along with various threads.

Susan Styrchak

Weaving has been my passion for the past 50 years. Not only does it allow me to play with colours and texture and produce useful items such as rugs and blankets, but it has also let me into other textile areas: Kumihimo is one technique that is simple but intriguing.
