SUNG NAM KIM
For almost twenty years, I have been passionately involved in metalwork in different capacities. In Korea, I trained formally in metalwork and jewelry and achieved a high level of craftsmanship.
Since coming to Canada, I have been continuously diversifying my metalwork skills. Working as a goldsmith, a fabricator and in custom lighting have given me experience with the commercial side of craft and design and developed my ability to meet custom requests. These jobs have also expanded my use of materials, techniques and scale.
My metalwork has included jewelry, furniture, tableware, lighting and sculpture made with a wide range of materials. Currently, I am working out of my studio in Calgary, Alberta. Some of my pieces are inspired by traditional Korean techniques (“Po Mok Sang Gam”) that involve natural patination.
