About

Sue Obata studied Creative Art at Sheridan College in the early 1970's. Subsequently, she spent eight years with two established ecclesiastical glass studios where she learned the techniques of traditional figurative glass painting. Her early mentors were both from Europe – one from Holland and one from Austria. Seeking new challenges, Sue opened her own studio. Since 1981, she has been commissioned to create many original windows for public, private and sacred space environments from coast to coast, in Canada and the United States. Her work has evolved and now includes contemporary design for stained glass, liturgical furnishings, and sacred space environments as well as restoration painting and design. In addition to her stained glass creations, Sue creates fine art glass works which use painting, etching, and silk screening techniques on glass. This work, often inspired by nature, is impressionistic. Sue's personal artwork has been shown domestically and internationally.
