About

I would love to be remembered as the knitter who created 1000 other knitters. I especially want people to know how to thrum knit since it is not done by very many people and is unique to my area of the island and Labrador. It was brought over by the early settlers." Margaret King

Margaret King uses 100% wool in all her knitted accessories because that is what her ancestors used. She feels a connection with her mother - who raised seven children and created her own patterns - and all the knitters who have gone before her. She values the perseverance and ingenuity of the older generation of Newfoundland women. King creates a line of traditional knit items such as vamps, which are short socks that make cozy slippers, convertible gloves, mitts, sweaters, salt and pepper hats and scarves. The mitts and vamps are also available as durable double knits. Margaret King is best known for her thrummed knits, which feature a soft insulating layer of unspun fleece or wool roving inside the sock, mitten or hat.
