Sandra Vincent lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and is a mother, gardener, teacher, writer and artist. The malleability of clay illuminates movement in sculpture. I started with fish. The catching of the quicksilver flip of a fish into the concrete medium of clay.
Coming from a background in writing, I tell stories and convey emotion into my sculptures. Born on the prairies, a strong connection to the land informs me; the vast Canadian Shield east of Winnipeg and the broad skies to the west. I try to capture the beauty of coniferous trees growing from inhospitable granite cliffs. I’ve travelled west in my work to evoke the rugged allure of the mountains and the joy of skiing.
I do what I do because I love building with clay. I’m always working, exploring and having fun in this medium.
