This exhibition is featuring 10 emerging artists working in ceramics, glass, jewellery, metals, sculpture, textiles, and wood: Nikki Arasaki, Claudine Gévry, Mike Hill, Kelly Hutcheson, Shonny Ji, Kaisa Lindfors, Mitra Mahmoodi, Cristina Shi, Josh Stasik Prince, and Daphne Woo.
We are proud to present the “Emerging Artists of 2021: Redefining Fine Craft” exhibition, showcasing talents of 10 local, emerging artists and their responses to the pandemic.
Fine craft has evolved as artisans and artists alike have paired traditional techniques with extraordinary designs. While remaining functional and staying true to the heart of craft, “Emerging Artists of 2021: Redefining Fine Craft” challenges the definition of ‘fine craft’ by experimenting and exploring avenues of self-reflection and expression while acknowledging the changes of this past year. By re-interpreting ‘fine craft’, each artist shares their journey in fabricating a world of the whimsical, unusual, colourful, geometrical, organic, and comfortable. These artists explore the new and profound through investigating the realities of the world in their individual practices. With limitations of studio spaces and shortage of materials, our artists rise to the challenge and create their utopia in the “Emerging Artists of 2021: Redefining Fine Craft”.
