À propos

MAWA artist in residence, Anne Steves invites the community to participate in an A-Luring Object workshop as part of her ongoing research into making/learning processes and how they can connect community to environment. In the A-Luring Object(s) project, Steves is working with the methods of making common to the production of fly-fishing lures on the BC coast in an attempt to ‘capture’ community collaboration.

The artist will ask participants to follow a series of instructions that describe the making of fanciful fishing lures while drawing upon their own notions of attraction, irritation and mimicry. Visitors will be provided with a selection of materials to work with including those traditional to fly tying, home making and textile arts. Participants will take home their unique ‘lure’ after documentation to be added to a future gallery installation.

This research project has been shared at the Canadian Craft Biennial, Comox Valley Art Gallery and Murmur Land Studios and is funded by the Canada Council for the Arts.
