Talk available in French only

As part of the 25th Journées de la Culture, under the theme of Travelling in Time, and of the exhibition La céramique en plein essor, La Guilde is proud to invite ceramic artist Laurent Craste for an artist talk on his work and approach, which is embodied in a reappropriation of the historical archetypes of ceramics. Drawing on the repertoire of 18th-19th century European porcelain models, he deconstructs and alters his models in a tragicomic fashion, questioning the status of collection objects. The talk concludes with a question period during which you may learn more about his work. Join us to discover Laurent Craste's fascinating approach and his unique perspective on the history of European ceramics!

Laurent Craste, living and working in Montreal, shares his career between his professional artistic practice and the teaching of ceramics. Ceramist by training, he completed a Master's Degree in Visual and Media Arts at UQAM. His artistic research focuses on the concepts related to decorative objects for collections, in their sociological, historical, ideological, and aesthetic dimensions. Over more than twenty years of career, Laurent Craste has received numerous awards and distinctions and participated in over sixty group and solo exhibitions in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia.
