About

January 17-March 21, 2020

For Shirley Tyderkie, crafting was a lifelong passion. From the age of four, when her grandmother taught her how to knit doll’s clothes, to the end of her life, Shirley aspired to master every craft she undertook. Her work received one of three Judge’s Awards at In Praise of Crafts, a juried show sponsored by the Crafts Guild in 1979, and appears in the Massey Foundation Collection of Canadian Crafts in Ottawa.

Shirley contributed to the Winnipeg craft community in many ways: she taught needlepoint classes and box making workshops, adjudicated crafts competitions, provided needlework samples for books, volunteered with the Dugald Costume Museum identifying lace, and was a founding member of the Winnipeg Embroiderer’s Guild.

This exhibit features examples of her embroidery, quilting, beading, lace making and knitting from the early 1970s through 2019.

Shirley Tyderkie was a long time member of the Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library and the Crafts Guild of Manitoba prior to 1997. She passed away in May 2019.
