As part of the second instalment of POP-UP, Horizon, artist Eldred Allen introduces his photographic practice, which explores many points of view through the use of the drone and handheld camera. He explains how, unexpectedly, his fascination with the images produced with a UAV (drone) led him to the study of photography. He then explores how he integrates this knowledge into his aerial imagery and videography. Capturing unprecedented images of Nunatsiavut’s natural surroundings and everyday scenes that reflect his culture, he shares his art in museums and galleries. The talk concludes with a question period where you can learn more about his technique and process. Come open your perspectives with Eldred Allen!
Eldred Allen, originally from Rigolet, Nunatsiavut, has always been interested in photography, which he practised from a young age. With an RPAS Training Certificate, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Operator and an Advanced Diploma in Geographic Information Science and Cartography from the Centre of Geographic Sciences (NS), he honed his skills in still and aerial photography and founded Bird's Eye Inc. in 2016. His work is featured in provincial magazines, national news outlets, regional news coverage, national marine projects and the National Film Board of Canada. In 2019, he participated in the exhibition Nunatsiavut - Our Beautiful Land at La Guilde and the virtual exhibition Looking Down from Up at Gallery 44 (Toronto,ON).
